Hello,

Running esxi 5.5 on a Z77 chipset, (home gear.) esxi seems to pickup the controller (Panther Point AHCI Controller) and on the drives but writing to the drive is dead slow.

Fatal error: 33 (Inconsistent data). These are not cheap and nasty, or freebie USB drives, so I would not normally expect to see this. You don't actually see the symptom / failure until a reboot because the ESXi image actually runs in memory, so is only loaded from the USB stick at boot.

This is an esata raid enclosure running on a single sata channel, if I do that neat little unsupported trick of making it an RDM to guest machine, it runs at full speed.

Now I understand that it could easily be slower than running it as an RDM, but this is abysmal, also add to this that there are no vm's running on this host at this time.

This was done using dd to fill out a fake file, the SSD which is the first drive is a lot slower too, but at 60MB/s it's significantly more tolerable.

I know this is not a battery backed sata or sas raid controller, but it should be significantly above where it's at.

Any insight would be very much appreciated.
